Assigning Technicians to Jobs

Quick version: You can assign one or more team members to any job, either when creating it or from the job detail page. Fieldkit shows who's available on the scheduled date.

Assigning Techs When Creating a Job

  1. On the New Job form, find the Technicians Assigned field.
  2. Click the dropdown and check the boxes next to the team members you want on this job.
  3. You can assign as many people as you need.
  4. If you're the only person on your account, Fieldkit assigns you automatically.

Assigning Techs from the Job Detail Page

  1. Open the job by clicking on it from the Jobs list.
  2. Find the Technicians card on the right side.
  3. Click the + button to open the assignment dialog.
  4. Check the boxes next to the techs you want to assign.
  5. Fieldkit shows availability info -- if the job has a scheduled date, you'll see which techs are available and which ones already have other jobs that day.
  6. Click Save to apply your changes.

Availability at a Glance

When you open the technician assignment dialog, Fieldkit checks who's available on the job's scheduled date:

  • Available techs are shown normally and are easy to select.
  • Unavailable techs (those already booked that day) are shown with a warning so you can make an informed decision. You can still assign them if needed.

Changing Assignments

You can change who's assigned at any time:

  1. Open the job detail page.
  2. Go to the Technicians card.
  3. Click the + button.
  4. Check or uncheck team members as needed.
  5. Click Save.

This completely replaces the current assignments with your new selections.

Removing a Tech from a Job

  1. Open the job detail page.
  2. Go to the Technicians card.
  3. Click the + button to open the assignment dialog.
  4. Uncheck the tech you want to remove.
  5. Click Save.

If you uncheck everyone, the job will have no technicians assigned.

What Technicians See

When a tech is assigned to a job:

  • The job appears on their My Jobs view.
  • They can see the job details, customer info, and location.
  • They can update the job status (On My Way, Start Job, Mark Complete) from their view.
  • Push notifications are sent when job status changes.

Tips

  • If you're a one-person operation, Fieldkit auto-assigns you to every new job -- you don't need to do anything.
  • Use the availability view to avoid double-booking your techs.
  • Multiple techs on the same job is great for larger installs or jobs that need a helper.
  • You can change assignments at any point, even after the job has started.
