Call Log

Quick version: Fieldkit gives your business a dedicated phone number. When someone calls it, the call forwards to your real phone. You see every call in the Call Log, and you can record what came of it.

How It Works

Your Fieldkit number sits in front of your real phone number. Here's what happens:

  1. A customer calls your Fieldkit number
  2. The call immediately forwards to your real phone number
  3. Fieldkit logs the call with the date, time, duration, and caller's number
  4. You answer the phone like you normally would

The caller never knows the call was forwarded. It looks and feels like a regular phone call.

Viewing the Call Log

  1. Click Calls in the left sidebar
  2. You'll see your call stats at the top and a table of all calls below

Call Stats

The stats section at the top of the page shows:

  • Today -- Calls received today
  • Week -- Calls received this week
  • Duration -- Average call length
  • Answered -- Percentage of calls you answered
  • Convert -- Percentage of calls that turned into booked jobs
  • Booked -- Total jobs booked from calls
  • Revenue -- Total dollar value from booked jobs

Call History Table

Each row in the call table shows:

  • Date and time of the call
  • Caller's phone number
  • Duration of the call
  • Outcome -- what happened with the call (see below)

If you have multiple locations, you can filter calls by location using the dropdown at the top.

Marking Call Outcomes

After each call, mark what happened.

Click the Set outcome dropdown on any call and choose one:

  • Booked -- You booked a job. You can also enter the expected job value (dollar amount).
  • Callback -- The customer wants a callback. Follow up later.
  • Quote -- You gave a quote but haven't booked yet.
  • Not a Fit -- The caller wasn't a good fit for your services.
  • Spam -- Junk call, robocall, or wrong number.

You can change an outcome at any time by clicking the existing outcome badge.

Why Outcomes Matter

When you mark calls as "Booked" and enter the job value, Fieldkit can show you how many of your calls turn into real work and what that work is worth. Without outcomes, the Call Log only shows call volume.

Your Business Number

Fieldkit assigns your number based on your business ZIP code, so callers see a local area code. The number is provisioned through Twilio and configured to forward to your business phone. See SMS Setup to get one.

Missed Calls

When a call goes unanswered, Fieldkit can automatically text the caller back so you don't lose the job. See Automated Messages.

Filtering Calls

If you have multiple locations, use the location filter at the top of the Calls page to see calls for a specific location. You can also filter by date range.

Tips

  • Mark outcomes the same day the call comes in -- it's easy to forget later
  • Always enter a job value when marking a call as "Booked" -- even an estimate helps
  • Check the "Answered" rate -- if you're missing calls, consider adding team members or adjusting your availability
  • Mark spam calls as spam so they don't skew your numbers
  • A call under 30 seconds usually isn't a real lead -- use the duration column to spot these quickly
