Set Up Your Business

Quick version: After signing up, a 7-step wizard walks you through setting up your business. It takes about 2 minutes, and you can change everything later.

How the Setup Wizard Works

After you create your account, Fieldkit walks you through 7 short steps. A progress bar at the top shows where you are. You can go back to any step at any time.

If you leave in the middle of setup, your progress is saved. When you come back, you'll see a "Welcome back" banner and can pick up where you left off.

Step 1: Your Business

Enter your basic business information.

  • Business Name -- The name your customers know you by (e.g., "Smith Plumbing & Heating").
  • Your Name -- Your full name as the business owner.
  • Phone Number -- Your main business phone number.
  • Email -- Your business email address.
  • Business Address -- Start typing and select from the suggestions. The city, state, and ZIP will fill in automatically.

Step 2: Your Trades

Tell Fieldkit what kind of work you do.

  • Primary Trade -- Pick your main trade from the list (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, general contracting, etc.).
  • Additional Trades -- If your business does more than one type of work, select those too. This is optional.

Fieldkit uses this to show you the right services and templates for your type of work.

Step 3: Service Area

Choose the cities where you take jobs.

  • Fieldkit automatically suggests cities within 25 miles of your business address.
  • Check the box next to each city you serve. You can select up to 15.
  • Your home city is marked as "Primary."

This helps with scheduling and, if you use Fieldkit's marketing features, makes sure your ads target the right areas.

Step 4: Your Services

Pick the specific services you offer.

  • Fieldkit shows services organized by category, based on the trades you selected in Step 2.
  • Check the ones that apply to your business.
  • If you offer something that's not on the list, click Add Custom Service and type it in.

These services will show up when you create estimates and jobs, so you won't have to type them every time.

Step 5: Your Team

Tell Fieldkit how many people work at your business.

  • Just me -- You're a one-person operation.
  • 2-5 people -- Small team.
  • 6-10 people -- Growing team.
  • 11+ people -- Larger operation.

This helps Fieldkit tailor the experience. No matter what you pick, you get unlimited users on your account.

Step 6: Online Presence

Answer three quick questions about your online presence.

  • Do you have a Google Business Profile? -- Yes, No, or Not Sure.
  • Do you have a Facebook business page? -- Yes or No.
  • Are you currently running any ads? -- Yes or No.

This information helps Fieldkit give you better recommendations if you decide to use the marketing features later.

Step 7: Your Goal

Pick your top priority for using Fieldkit.

  • Get more calls -- Drive more leads and customers.
  • Stop using paper/spreadsheets -- Go digital with your business.
  • Send professional estimates -- Create and send branded quotes fast.
  • Get paid faster -- Streamline invoicing and payments.
  • All of the above -- You want it all.

Click Finish Setup and you'll land on your dashboard, ready to go.

Tips

  • Every piece of information you enter during setup can be changed later in Settings.
  • If you're not sure about something, pick your best guess and move on. You can always update it.
  • Your progress is automatically saved, so you won't lose anything if you close the browser.
